Businesses Can Donate Through Charity800.com’s Phone Services

by Rocky on January 18, 2010

Dynamic Interactive Corp., an 800 number service company, just announced their new company Charity800.com. The new service provides businesses with cloud telephony services such as toll free numbers, local numbers, call recording, call routing, voicemail, and call tracking features, and then donates a half of a cent for every minute of usage to the business’s charity of choice.

The logic behind this new service is to enable businesses to cut costs of traditional phone systems, through eliminating the expensive hardware and software. In addition to cutting costs, businesses can fulfill their social consciousness by choosing their favorite charity oriented service. Charity800.com also provides their business clients with banners, in order to encourage potential clients to call the business.

The concept behind this new program reminds me of the classic debate in business ethics, among Milton Friedman and other prominent thinkers, about the nature of corporate social responsibility. In fact, this press release echos the school of thought that in the end of the day engaging in high ethical standards and even charity will help to increase the bottom line.

Charity800.com appears to be trying to increase their own bottom line by attracting customers to their service through their new philanthropic activities. But, the question of how this program will impact the bottom line of the businesses who choose their service remains undetermined. In the end of the day, this charity program may provide companies with a differentiating edge, but this edge will only be sustainable if the phone services offered compete on the highest level of quality.
